Price Chopper on Saturday

Made a Price Chopper run on Saturday morning. Surprisingly, it wasn't too busy. I had warned Micki that I was going to be taking some time thinking about things, and it wasn't until about the last 5 minutes she started asking, "Are we done yet?"

I'm not going to list everything I purchased, but I did make good use of the two Box Top for Education deals I mentioned below...I purchase 6 boxes of Hamburger/Chicken Helper and 9 boxes of Cheerios. That's what's called "stocking up." I was actually out of cereal, so the timing was great on that one.

I actually did a little better than usual for a grocery store run. My retail was $181. After coupons and sales, my OOP was 71.77 which is a savings of 60%. That means, I walked out of the store with $109 worth of groceries I didn't have to pay for. Wow, I like the thought of that!

Now, I've pulled off my 12 UPCs, circled the items on the receipt, printed up the form and am getting ready to send in for my 100 Box Tops. You may wonder why a homeschooler would care about Box Tops. Two words. Homeschool group.

Make sure you purchase at least 12 of the items at the same time, because you then print up this form http://www.mypricechopper.com/SpecialPromotions/2009/BoxTopEntryForm5.pdf and mail in the receipt and the 12 UPC and tada! you get 100 bonus box tops. Great article from bargainbrianna.com

I had to share this article from www.bargainbriana.com. It's a great list of sources for coupons!

Recently, I started using printable coupons almost as much as I do “traditional” coupons. When you print from legitimate sources, you usually won’t have a problem redeeming your printable coupons. However, stores are still subject to reject any coupon at any time. Please know your store’s coupon policy before trying to redeem your printable coupons.

::Bri’s Favorite Printable Coupon Sources
Coupons.com
Coupons.com is one of my top sources for printable coupons. They are updated regularly and have a large selection. You can print these directly from my website from the little coupon widget to your right or by visiting their site to print out the coupons. Sometimes the coupons are specific to a certain zip code but you will find something you need at this site. Usually, coupons are reset at the beginning of each month but occasionally we get a surprise reset in the middle of the month.,

Red Plum Printables
Red Plum offers printable coupons. There isn’t as big of a selection as other sources but you can find high value coupons and sometimes exclusive Target printable coupons.

SmartSource.com
Smart Source offers printable coupons on their site as well and are updated regularly. Many coupons to choose form.

Manufacturer’s Sites
Many manufacturer’s offer printable coupons on their site. Go to the website of your favorite product and browse around. Look especially under promotions or coupons. Sites such as Eat Better America, Box Tops 4 Education, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, and Very Best Baking offer printable coupons.

Other Sites
This site has a list of “bricks” printables that are available to print from a variety of sites.

How to gain more coupons....

One word. EBAY.

You can actually purchase coupons on Ebay. Actually, you aren't buying the coupons; you are bidding on the time for them to cut out and sort the coupons. I know. It's just a technically to keep them legal with Ebay.

You can bid on 100 coupons and win for about $2-3 dollars which isn't bad considering a Sunday paper costs $2.00 in the KC area. Most offer free shipping because let's face it, a hundred coupons don't weigh that much!

So, if you don't want the hassle of getting Sunday papers or you want to increase your stash, just go to http://home.shop.ebay.com/items/Food-Coupons

Yummy free salad for summer--restaurants tip

Denny's has come out with some yummy entree salads for the summer. AND of course, there's a coupon for a free salad when you purchase another entree. Just print off this coupon and it's yours! http://www.dennys.com/LiveImages/enProductImage_685.pdf

Here's a tip you probably already know, but it can save you some money if you choose to eat out. Go to the website of any restaurants you usually frequent and sign up for their newsletter or club. They usually send out coupons now and then especially around your birthday!! It's coupons that come to you for places you'd usually go anyway!

Back to School Savings Guide

I received this from my church's Women's ministy email newsletter. Thought it had some good advice.

Back to School Savings Guide
Taken from msnbc.com
Submitted by Allison Dul
l
Tip #1: Avoid the taxes
Shop for back to school supplies and clothes during tax-free breaks. Missouri's Tax Free Weekend: August 7-9,2009

Tip #2: Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk at a discount warehouse like Costco or Sams' Club is a great way to save a lot of cash, especially if you have a large family.

Tip #3: Start at Home
One way to get around spending hundreds of dollars per child is to avoid buying everything new. Take an inventory of what your family already owns. Have your kids really outgrown all of their shoes and clothing? Do you have an abundance of pens, pencils, folders and rulers?

Tip #4: Start sleuthing for bargains.
Now is an excellent time to become highly attuned to clearance sales in your area and coupons that can help you at this time of year. When you find a good sale for school supplies, stock up for the entire year, not just the immediate future. Be aware that some of the best sales for backpacks, Thermoses and lunch boxes are likely to surface in September after school has already started.

Tip #5: Go to dollar stores.
You might be surprised by the selection of paper products and other school supplies you'll find there.

Tip #6: Scour garage sales, thrift stores and consignment shops.
These places typically require some legwork, but the bargains to be had are astonishing. On certain days of the week, some thrift stores allow you to fill an entire bag with clothing and buy it all for $3 or $4.

Tip #7: Remember eBay andcraigslist.
The savings could be substantial, and the process could be less time-consuming than the thrift-store-and-yard-sale route.

Tip #8: Set ground rules for clothes shopping.
Choose clothes that will give your children room to grow. Pick up extra pairs of shoes in larger sizes when you find a good sale. Tip #9: Teach important money lessons.

Back-to-school season lends itself to having frank discussions with your children about money, budgeting and needs vs. wants. Depending on their ages and maturity levels, you could negotiate back-to-school budgets with your kids and allow them to manage those budgets entirely. If they want anything above and beyond the dollar amount you've agreed to provide, let them use their allowance money or babysit, mow lawns or wash cars to pay for it themselves.

This week at CVS and Walgreens

Still a great week for doing some back-to-school supply shopping.

Of course, I got most of my deals from bargainbriana.com and becentsable.net, but this week I also checked out couponmom.com.

At Wags, I purchased 18.79 in products for 1.92 which is a 90% savings. I received $1 in RR making my final cost .92 for a 95% savings.
Here's my best deals:
  • Pilot G2 Pens for $1 and receive $1 in RR making them FREE.
  • Chinet paper plates were B1G1. Price was 2.99 for one. Used 2 coupons for $1/1 from 6/28 SS.
  • Kleenex are .89 with coupon from the ad. Then had a coupon from coupons.com for .50/3 making them .72 each.
  • Mento Gum is on sale for .99 each. After using the .55/1 coupon form 6/21 SS, final price is .44 each.

Actually, those are the only 4 items I purchased from Wags.

On to CVS. My total retail was 31.08. After turning in coupons & ECB, my OOP was .10. TEN CENTS! which is a savings of MORE THAN 99.9% or basically free, but then I earned over $11 in ECB in return.

BTW, 2 of the items I was going to purchase were on the 3 day sale and out of stock. CVS will give you a rain check, so I will get the items at the sale price and/or any ECB.

Here's my deals:

  • Paper Mate 1.2 pens 10ct are .99 and you receive .99 back in ECB making them FREE
  • Caliber/CVS memo book was .99 with .99 in ECB making them FREE.
  • 1" Vinyl binder is $3.00 and you receive $3 in ECB making them FREE.
  • Duracell batteries are 2.99 with an $1 in ECB were 1.99 each. A coupon for .75/1 came from 7/12 RP made the final price 1.24 for a pack.
  • Wrigley's or Extra gum was $2 for a pack of 3. Coupon for $1/1 from 7/12 SS made the final price $1 for the pack of 3 or .33 each pack of gum.
  • CVS Pantiliners are .89 with .89 in ECB making them FREE.
  • Speed Stick Pro is 2.99 with $2.00 in ECB making it .99.

So there you go. I think I did pretty well today. Just wish I could have scored more food, but for what I paid, I think it was worth it.

CVS Run and School Supplies

Hey all.
I managed to get my CVS run in this evening. It's actually kind of funny because the shift supervisor and I have an ongoing joke about the fact that I kill a tree each time I come in because my receipts are always so long!

CVS has a lot of school supplies for free through Tuesday. I stocked up knowing that whatever we don't need, I can donate to our church's school supply collection coming up.

Here's my deals:
  • PaperMate Grip Pens .99 w/.99 in ECB means FREE
  • Caliber/CVS school glue .99 w/.99 in ECB means FREE
  • Caliber/CVS 12" rulers .99 w/.99 in ECB means FREE
  • Caliber/CVS 5-subject notebooks 3.99 w/3.00 in ECB means .99 each
  • (Purchased the limit of all of these. They were out of the one subject notebooks for free, but I'll go back and check tomorrow or Tuesday.)
  • Scott bathroom tissue 12 pk for 6.99. Coupons for 1.00/1 from http://www.coupons.com/ makes the final price 5.99 or about .50 per roll.
  • Tylenol Arthritis is 3.99. Get $3 in ECB making it .99 but I had a coupon for $2/1 from 5/17 RP and tada! they paid me $1 to take it.

I got a few other things, but these were the best deals. I always make sure to check http://www.bargainbrianna.com/ and http://www.becentsable.net/ because sometimes one kind find deal that the other missed (like the Tylenol) and I then do a little searching myself as well in case there are things I want that they didn't get (like the Scott TP).

Ok, so here's the numbers. The total retail was 71.63. After sales, coupons and ECB turned in, my oop was 27.54 which would be a 62% savings if I stopped right there. But they gave me $20 in ECB back meaning my final price was 7.54 or a savings of 89%. Not as good as I often do, but I think it's good enough!

Small CVS run & Extra Care Rewards

Yes, I finally made it to CVS this week. I just picked a few things.

First, the CVS panty shields are on sale for .89 with .89 in ECB back making the final price....free.
Second, the Head & Shoulders Shampoo was on sale for 4.99 with 2.00 in ECB for each. I had a coupon from 7/5 P&G for B1G1 which means I got 2 H&S for 4.99 minus the $4 in ECB for buying 2 making them .50 each.

Ok, so in the end, the retail price for all was 12.97 and after sales, coupons, and such made my OOP 1.88. That's a savings of 85% savings. They gave $4.89 back in ECB meaning in the end they gave me 3.01 to take the products out of the store.

Also, remember with CVS' Extra Care Rewards you get a percentage back at the end of each quarter. So, I received an additional $5.50 in ECB on the items that I purchased on sale, with coupons and received ECB!

Snapfish-50 prints for only 50 cents!

I use snapfish almost always for my prints. A penny a print isn't a bad deal!

ConAgra Coupons rocks!

Remember back in May when I told you about the deal where you send in $25 worth of receipts of certain products and they would send you $34 in coupons? Well, I got in the mail and yippee!!! Most of the coupons are for $1 off 1 item. Isn't that awesome! Isn't is so big and pretty! Well, I think so at least. So, it was really worth the little bit of effort.
