Always check your boxes or packages

I had a reminder today about how important checking your empty boxes or boxes is. Of course, the main thing you usually find is a coupon which is nice. Today, however, I checked a box assuming that it was just the usual literature about the medication, but it was actually a coupon for a free movie ticket when you purchase one. Sounds like a date night to me!

Walgreens

Made my first Wags run of the week. I had to make sure I did it before 2/1 or my RR would have expired. I hate throwing away money!

A reminder to always check more than one site for matches. I did my usual becentsable.net and my new favorite, mommysnacks.net, but neither had the coupon match for the Accu Chek! I found that on couponmom.com. She does everything in the sales ad. What I usually do with her is run down the right hand column of savings percentage and when the numbers are big, I check out what the deal is! All the items below I purchased to donate.

Scalpicin Medicated Wipes 12-pk $5.99

My retail for what I purchased was $41.25. After sales, coupons, and $10 in Register Rewards, my OOP was 9.75. That's a savings of 76%. Not quite as high as usual, but you know it doesn't end there. I received $21 in RR. Yup, $21. That means Wags paid me $11 to take $41 worth of items from their store. Gotta' love it!

Five Cheap Date Ideas for Valentine's Day

Five Cheap Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day
from daveramsey.com on 26 Jan 2010

Valentine’s Day is almost here.

Across the nation, men everywhere are scrambling for ideas. Will it be flowers and chocolate or dinner and a movie?

Let’s face it, fellas. If you’ve been in a relationship for any amount of time, creative and cheap date ideas can be hard to come by. And with January now in the rearview mirror, it may seem easy to forget about that New Year’s resolution to tighten up the budget.

But this Valentine’s Day, you don’t have to break the bank to create memories and have a good time. Here are five ideas to get your wheels turning:

Dinner and a Movie … The Remix
Okay, we know, dinner and a movie is so cliché. But what about a candlelit home-cooked meal and a romantic rental movie? You don’t have to buy filet mignon and lobster. You can get great deals on chicken, pork and certain types of fish. Pair it up with a little pasta, and you’re ready to treat your significant other to an unforgettable evening!

The Open Road
Just get in the car with your special lady friend and drive! You might spend a little on gas, but you’ll create some lasting memories as you travel to a town you have never visited or a famous landmark. You could also revisit the special places around town where you’ve created fun memories and take pictures together.

Game Night
Who doesn’t love a good board game? Find a few classic board games, invite some friends over, and make a night of it. Or, if you have a Wii, then you have even more options—bowling, Rock Band and Mario Kart to name a few. Having some Valentine’s-themed food on hand will add to the fun—red-velvet cupcakes and heart-shaped candy are always crowd pleasers.

Night at the Museum
Two tickets to a local museum usually aren’t too expensive. Learn a little about art or history—and each other! Combine this idea with your home-cooked dinner and a movie or game night, and you’ll have a full day of fun.

Take A Hike
Pack a lunch, grab a few water bottles, and hit the trail. You’ll be amazed at the quality of conversation you can have with someone while you are hiking up a mountain or through a trail in the woods. After all, it is Valentine’s Day, so why not get your heart in shape?

You can come up with plenty of cheap date ideas on your own. Just follow your passions (don’t do something just because it’s cheap), and think outside the box (of chocolates).

And, remember, the memories will last a lot longer than the gourmet chocolate and expensive roses. Keep that in mind as you are planning your Valentine’s Day date and other dates throughout the year!

Price Chopper 1/31

A lot of these are from the 4-day sale which ends today, so you won't be able to score the same deals, but remember, if you really want do well, you're going to need to do some research every Wednesday. Becentsable.net has the Grocery Gathering at http://www.becentsable.net/Default.aspx?pageId=331691 where you can check your local grocery stores. I use kcpennypinchinmama.com for the KC Price Chopper chain. Oh, and going the last day of the sale can also mean they are out of stock of things.

Here's the deals I got:

Remember to always check for coupons in the aisle. I had planned to purchase a few bananas and some bags of salad just because we needed them. They weren't on sale, but I happened to see a coupon for purchase 2 bags and get bananas free (up to $1.75). So a grabbed a few more bananas to make sure I got the full value of the coupon (and picked up a few more coupons since they don't expire until March). I ended up getting over 3 lbs of bananas for $.16 or just over $.05 a lb!

All that said, my retail price for my shopping list was 48.42. After sales and coupons, I paid 18.92 which is a savings of 61%. I really like thinking about me paying less than half then the next person in line did!

Walgreens 2.0

I made a second run to Walgreens this week because I wanted to snag that Wet Wipes deal I wrote about and a new Ricola deal I found out about.

Here are the details about both:
Print this $.99 Ricola Walgreens Weekly Ad Coupon to receive the $.99 price for Ricola Cough Drops. Match that with the $1 on 2 Ricola Coupon in the 1/17 SS Insert (exp 3/31) and get them for just $.49 each! (Thanks Mommysnacks.net!)

Take the Wet Ones Pledge and you will have access to print out a $1.50/1 coupon. Print 2. On sale this week 2/$4 with $1 RR making it 2/$3. Use those coupons and you get 2 free. (Thanks BargainBriana.com!)

So initially, my retail total was 17.96 and my total after coupons and sales was going to be 2.27. Well, the smallest RR I had was $3 and I didn't want to waste .73 cents! What to do?

I added a pack of gum for 1.29 which made my retail total 19.25. After sales, coupons, and the $3 RR, my total was, get ready, .27 which is a 91% savings. Yup, I spent $1.29 more and paid $2 less!

Then they gave me the $1 RR for the Wet Wipes which means that Wags paid me .73 to take 19.25 worth of merchandise out of their store.
