Here's my confession. After my husband got paid on Friday, I went out that evening to Kmart to purchase Easter "stuff." I just wanted to make sure we got our stuff before the money ran out!
Well, to my shame, I did not shop sales or have coupons. I know! Crazy!
But God redeemed my hastiness. You see, two things that I purchased went on sale yesterday. Did I pout and fret? No. I merely took my receipt into Kmart and they gave me back the difference which was $10!
Now, getting $10 back would have been a good enough deal, but I wanted chicken.
You see, Apple Market had some chicken. It was on sale for $0.89 a pound. I had two coupons for $1 a package of the Pilgrim Brand chicken that was on sale. Sounds easy enough. The problem is the Apple Market by us STILL DOESN'T TAKE INTERNET COUPONS!!!!!! (Can you tell I'm a little frustrated? I'm like "Wake up and join the 21st century already!)
So, on the way home from Kmart we stopped at another Apple Market. I pickup two packages totalling 6 pounds for $5.34. After my $2 off in coupons, my total became $3.34 which is $0.56 a pound. That's a savings of 37% off the sale price. I'm not sure how much the chicken regularly goes for, but I think I did a good job.
The Proverbs 31 woman is a challenge to all of us. This blog is an attempt to apply "She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar" (ESV) in my everyday life through couponing and money-savings tips. Here I share what I do and learn.

Belated Wags & CVS
Due to an unexpected toothache followed by an unexpected extraction a week later, I'm really behind on my couponing. Since this week is almost over, I'm not even going to bother showing the deals I used. I found them from mommasnacks.com and becentsable.net.
At Walgreens, my retail total was $15.62, but after sales, coupons and RR, my OOP was $1.03. That's a savings of 93%. I received $5 in RR which meant they actually paid me $3.97 for my items. Here I purchased some Pampers Wipes for only $0.50.
When I went to CVS, I purchased 3 boxes of cereal which would have been $13.67 retail. I paid 4.50 which is a savings of 67%. That would have made each box of cereal $1.50 which isn't bad, but I received $5 ECB back which means I got them for FREE!
Well, there you have it. I did get a raincheck at CVS for something.
I might as well mention the deals I got during my tooth. Since we don't have insurance, medical costs are out of pocket. I was told the cost for the extraction was going to be $175. I ended up being charged only $106. I don't know what made the difference, but I'll take it.
I then went to Kmart for my pain meds. They are usually less busy and I sue them for the occasional prescription. I had gone there merely for the convenience, but picked up a sales ad and found a coupon for a $10 gift card with a new prescription. It was nice getting $10 for something I was going to do anyway!
My friends think it hilarious that I was excited and giving praise for a discounted extraction and gift card instead of bemoaning my pain! Priorities!

Kmart Double Coupons
I managed two runs to Kmart today. Of course, since it's the Monday after the initial start of double coupons, a lot of things were picked over already. I even took my coupon box with me on the second trip.
I highly recommend picking out a bunch of different potential coupons initially and then check you coupon stash. Also, other sites may give you ideas, but your price for the items may be different making it not such a great deal.
The first trip was 17.75 in retail and I paid .38 making it a 98% savings. It made me feel good to be able to lick my wounds from my savings at Wags and CVS last night!
I actually spent 1 1/2 hours at Kmart during my second run just trying to find some deals. Now, I'll admit that there were many things that I could have gotten for fairly good prices like 1.00 or 1.50, but I felt that wasn't good enough. My retail price was 36.97 and I paid 5.84 which is an 84% savings.
So between the 2 runs, I had a savings of 89%.
I might actually take a look at the Kmart sales ad and see if there was anything they have on sale that I missed otherwise, I probably won't go back unless I go to the other Kmart in town to see if they are stocked better on items.

Kmart Doubling coupons again

Looks like Kmart will be doubling coupons up to $2 again. This means they will actually double a coupon for $2/1 to $4/1. There is supposed to be a 10 coupons per day. You could use more than that last time, so you'd have to go back several times if you really wanted to save a lot.
Check out http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com/kmart-double-coupon-matches-and-best-deals-67-613/ for her list of match up for Kmart.

Walgreens on Earth Day
Well, even though Wags didn't have much more to offer me today, I just had to go to use my Earth Day coupon!
One of the benefits of the coupon was that you received a free re-usable shopping bag. WooHoo! Another shopping bag. Now I just need to remember to take them to the store when I when I shop.
Well, I purchased 33.48 worth of stuff and after sales and coupons my total was 11.98. But that's not what I paid. I still had 8.05 left on my Wags Gift Card I received from last months Easy Saver Rebates, so my OOP was 3.93. I saved 82%.
I did make a Kmart run, but it didn't produce much. All the shelves are so picked over and empty. They're supposed to be getting a truckload tomorrow. I've also heard that the other Kmart in town is still very well stocked. Hmmmm. Wait or go to the other side of town....or both!

Working the Rebates
I'm slowly getting in on the other side of saving with coupons which are rebates. I've heard it said that there's no better feeling than to not pay for something at the cash register and then actually get paid with a rebate for the same item.
Again, I'm new at this. Of course, the easiest rebate right now is the Wags Easy Saver Rebates. You can even enter those on line. If you request your rebate via Wags gift card instead of cash you get 10% more, so I should be getting $15 reloaded on my Wags gift card. Now I've heard this whole program is being ended this month, but I haven't heard any details about any new programs.
I'm sending in one of receipts from Kmart to the Glamour Platinum Rewards where I'm supposed to get a $25 gift card for Kmart. For more details check out http://bargainsbythebagfull.blogspot.com/2009/04/k.html .
I also am sending in another rebate for $5 in coupons. Check it out here: http://www.greattastebigsavings.com/ receipts need to be dated by 5/5, so you actually still have some time if you want to get in on this one. It includes Duncan Hines, Vlasic, Log Cabin, Mrs. Buttersworth, and Armour mix and match.

Last Night's Wags & CVS run
CVS & Wags didn't have much to offer me this week, but I made a run anyway. I realize now, that I should have waited until tomorrow to run to Wags with the Earth Day coupon. See my post below about that deal http://mrspriceisright.blogspot.com/2009/04/earth-day-sale-at-walgreens.html .
I've been getting so much free make-up that I'm going to start wearing make-up daily to use it! And some of the make-up is actually organic or made for sensitive skin (since I have rosacea, that's a consideration for me.)
At Wags, I purchased 18.47 worth of stuff for 3.98. Then I received $2 RR making my final price 1.98, an 89% savings.
I bought 28.25 worth of stuff for 1.26. Then they gave me $4 ECB which means in the end they gave me 2.74 for taking 28.25 worth of stuff. I also received a $5 off a purchase of $25 or more coupon.
Oh, my friend Rachel did awesome at Kmart. I'm so proud of her and jealous as well. She bought $62 worth of stuff for ...drum roll... .37. Yes, 37 cents. The lady behind her was so impressed that is paid the .37 for her. So, you see, I still have a lot to learn! :-)

Kmart Blue Light Special!!!!
OK, I'm dating myself. I don't think Kmart even has blue light specials any more, but they are offering DOUBLE and TRIPLE coupons this week. It's absolutely worth it if you're Kmart is participating.
Go to: http://hip2save.blogspot.com/2009/04/kmart-double-coupon-deals-419-425.html
There you will see a link for $5 off $50....make sure to hand that in first before you turn in the rest of your coupons. This Blog also has a wonderful list of things you can get at Kmart with what coupons.
But supposedly that's not it. Glamour Magazine is offering a a $25 Kmart gift card for every $50 receipt you turn in. You can check out the details on this one at http://bargainsbythebagfull.blogspot.com/2009/04/k.html . I've seen this info. on several blogs/websites, so I'm going to assume it's true. After all, it's only going to cost me a stamp to mail in my receipt.
I went to Kmart twice today because there is a 25 coupon limit per visit. Between my 2 visits I bought $133 in merchandise for only $31 which is a savings of 77%. Some of the things I got included cereal, juice, shampoo, razors, and candles. Oh, a tons of deodorant.
We are so stocked up on shampoo, body wash and deodorant, but when I can get those items for under a $1 each, I can't help but buy more! It's too good to pass up.
Yes, I'm probably going to go through my coupons and go back to Kmart again this week. I haven't even dealt with CVS & Wags yet!
